"I am a wills, trusts and estate planning solicitor with many years’ experience of helping individuals deal with their legal affairs to best effect, often addressing more complex personal, family, and financial situations.”

I am a Legal Director within the Private Client Team, having joined the company in June 2026, following the merger of my family legal business (McKenzie Law) with Higgs.

My career path to Higgs has been an interesting one. Having initially trained and worked for 7 years with a large regional West Midlands practice, I then worked for a large Shropshire law firm, where I became a partner and ultimately led their prominent private client team.

After 9 years there, I decided it was time/ overdue to be bold. I joined my husband Niels, who had set up a niche legal practice in Shrewsbury, and together, alongside Laura Pugh, we built and ran our small specialist law firm for 14 years. We have been fortunate to act for many interesting and affluent individuals, charities, and businesses in both Shropshire and beyond during this time.

It was a privilege to be able to work together over these years, setting the standard high, caring about colleagues and clients, and not needing to ask anyone’s permission to bring our whippet to work.

The decision to join Higgs was made very carefully and over an extended period. We had been working with the Higgs Contentious Probate Team for several years, referring our clients for legal services that our niche firm didn’t provide, so in many ways, joining Higgs was a natural choice for us.

I am excited to continue my career with Higgs, knowing I have joined a team of highly regarded lawyers with shared professional values.

I am a full member of STEP (the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners) and of Lifetime Lawyers (previously SFE).

  • I have created flexible trusts in Wills for many clients that have saved inheritance tax, helped safeguard family wealth and supported a multitude of beneficiaries whose circumstances make them vulnerable.
  • I have advised many individuals facing the most challenging of personal circumstances. These experiences have shaped me both as a human and a lawyer. I am a compassionate professional.
  • I have acted for retired directors of several PLC companies.
  • Most of my work comes by introduction from existing clients, other lawyers, accountants, and wealth managers.
  • An early career highlight was acting for a wealthy lady who lived very modestly in Wolverhampton. I have never forgotten the story of when her nephew took her to Egypt for the day on Concorde so that she could see the pyramids and be home in time to watch Coronation Street.
  • Although my focus is now on Wills, trusts, and estate planning, one of the most interesting estate administration cases I was involved with at McKenzie Law included the violin that was played by the band leader, Wallace Hartley as the Titanic tragically sank. The violin sold at auction for £900,000 in 10 minutes and made worldwide news – reported immediately back to us in Shrewsbury (are you seeing the news?!) by an excited auctioneer in Wiltshire. At the time, it totally surpassed all previous Titanic memorabilia sale records. It was incredible to even be on the periphery of this event.
  • I have acted for some of my clients for almost 30 years now, which makes me sound older than I feel.
  • I act as a professional trustee in relation to several substantial trusts.
