Katie Chance
Associate - Court of Protection
"I am a specialist Court of Protection solicitor, assisting clients with capacity issues, providing advice to families of clients with capacity issues and providing ongoing management of clients' property and financial affairs.”
I joined Higgs as an Associate in January 2025, splitting my time between the Court of Protection and Wealth Preservation teams. Before joining Higgs, I worked at another large regional law firm for over 10 years.
I have been advising clients on estate planning for 11 years, with a keen interest in supporting clients with mental capacity issues. Naturally, this led me to gain experience in the Court of Protection, which is now the area I specialise in.
I assist the Wealth Preservation team in cases involving clients with reduced mental capacity, advising them on wills, LPAs, and other estate planning matters.
I assist vulnerable clients with an array of illnesses or conditions that affect their capacity, ranging from elderly clients living with dementia to younger clients living with significant injuries as a result of a personal injury or medical negligence.
I deal with applications to the Court of Protection on behalf of incapacitated clients, as well as dealing with the ongoing management of their property and financial affairs.
The client is at the centre of everything that I do, and I strive to achieve the best outcome for all clients.
I am a Dementia Friends Ambassador, a fully accredited member of The Association for Lifetime Lawyers and an Affiliate Member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners.
