Associate - Medical Negligence

"I am proud to work at Higgs LLP where I am able to make a difference by providing specialist advice and support to clients who have sustained life-changing injuries as a result of negligent medical treatment”

I am an associate solicitor in the medical negligence team, having joined Higgs LLP upon the completion of my training contract. Prior to my qualification, I worked for two Legal 500 firms as a legal clerk and trainee solicitor in their personal injury and clinical negligence teams.

I advise on a wide range of cases arising from sub-standard medical care provided by GPs, hospitals, doctors, midwives, nurses, walk-in centres, ambulance services and private medical care. My focus is on helping my clients to make the best possible recovery from their injury so that they can begin to rebuild their lives following the negligence.

I frequently advise on claims that have arisen where negligent medical care has led to the death of a loved one. This includes advising on the inquest process, claims made by a family member on behalf of the individual’s estate for their pain, suffering and financial losses. As well as, claims on behalf of individuals who were dependant on their loved one for financial support or care and are seeking compensation.

I also work closely with colleagues to provide support and advise clients who have sustained a catastrophic birth injury, brain injury or spinal injury as a result of negligent care.

My professional memberships include:

  • Committee Member of Birmingham Law Society Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Committee,
  • Wolverhampton and Black Country Junior Lawyers Division (WBCJLD),
  • Birmingham Medico Legal Society (BLMS).
  • Secured a £10,000 settlement for a child who sustained a psychiatric injury as a result of the use unsterilised medical equipment.
  • Acted on an extremely high value complex claim which resulted in multi-million pound settlement for child who sustained life-changing injuries during birth.
  • Acted on several claims under the Fatal Accident Act to obtain compensation for children, dependants and spouses where their loved one has passed away arising from delays in diagnosis and treatment.
  • Acted on several claims where the negligent management of a psychiatric illness has resulted in serious injury or death
