About me

"I am a commercial real estate lawyer with over 20 years' experience acting for a wide range of clients from tenant occupiers to property investors and developers, funders and hotel owners/investors. The tangible nature of real estate is a huge appeal, and when I can, I enjoy visiting the property I'm dealing with – particularly if it's a hotel!”

I joined Higgs LLP in 2026 as part of the acquisition of Vialex Limited.

As a real estate lawyer, I advise a wide range of clients – investors, business owners/occupiers, funders, developers, and landowners- in relation to many different types of properties, including offices, shops, industrial units, hotels, care homes, bonded warehouses, historic properties, and even mountain bike trails!

The tangible nature of real estate assets has always appealed to me, and I will often visit the property concerned with the client, as there is no substitute for being on the ground. I work closely with clients to better understand their strategic objectives and specific requirements on a property-by-property basis.

I have a particular interest in the hotel and leisure and arts sectors, and have worked with various hotel owners/occupiers, theatre and independent cinema venues, and even a ski centre!

Whether I am acting on an acquisition, sale, lease, development, or funding project, or dealing with lease management documents, I aim to provide clear, concise advice focused on getting the deal done.

I am on the board of Filmhouse (Edinburgh) Limited.

Expertise

Working with a client to build a portfolio of independent hotels in northern Scotland to create a new hotel brand, through a series of business acquisitions; dealing with the secured lending to support the acquisitions and refurbishment.
Acquisition and onward sale of development sites for affordable housing.
Leasing a site for the development by a whisky client of distillery and visitor centre.
Agreeing the long-term lease of an independent cinema venue and specialist equipment to bring it back into use following the administration of the previous owner/operator.
