At Higgs LLP, as across much of the legal sector, September marks the beginning of exciting new journeys – none more significant than those embarking on their very first seat as trainee solicitors.
Hot on the heels of last week’s celebration of our newly qualified solicitors, Higgs LLP is proud to have a trainee cohort of 19 ambitious individuals, gaining experience across 12 specialisms spanning business services, dispute resolution, private client, property, family and personal injury.
The firm’s approach to its people is award-winning – in 2025, at the same time the firm is celebrating its 150th anniversary, the People Team at Higgs were awarded the Employee Wellness Excellence Award at the Express and Star Business Awards. The team is also shortlisted for Law Firm of the Year at the Black Country Chamber Business Awards and in the Candidate Assessment category at the In House Recruitment Awards, through its partnership with ThriveMap.
The firm also remains committed to widening access to the profession by creating and supporting non-traditional pathways into law and back in July, Higgs announced that Apprenticeship Scheme alumni, Latoyah Thompson joined the firm as a Solicitor in the Property team. Latoyah is the first Graduate Solicitor Apprentice to qualify at the firm via the SQE route.
Sophie Wardell, People Director at Higgs LLP, “Our people-driven approach is what makes us so successful and I’m incredibly proud that our people come from such a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. At Higgs, we look beyond academic results and assessment performance – we want our trainees to embody what our firm stands for and to live our core values. It’s this approach that truly sets Higgs apart. To all of our new trainees starting this September, I wish you the very best as you begin your journey. I’m really looking forward to watching you grow, thrive and succeed.”
Higgs LLP has announced a new partnership with August Equity, signalling the beginning of a bold next chapter – one focused on innovation, growth and opportunity. Together, we aim to broaden our services, strengthen our capabilities and extend our reach into new regions, shaping the future of what a modern law firm can be.
