The People team at Higgs LLP is on the awards trail once again, hot-on-the heels of their win at the Express and Star Business Awards last month where they secured the Employee Wellness Excellence award.

Ahead of the gala ceremony in November, the team is celebrating making the shortlist for the In House Recruitment (IHR) Award in the Candidate Assessment category, in partnership with Thrivemap.

Thrivemap is an award-winning candidate assessment platform which gave us the ability to move towards a data-driven approach to recruitment, focusing on assessing candidates’ abilities and cultural alignment with the firm through structured, scientifically backed assessment.

By working with ThriveMap, Higgs aimed to reduce bias that can often influence subjective decision-making in the recruitment process.

Ultimately, the firm’s approach will enhance the quality of trainee intake, while supporting a more streamlined, consistent recruitment process. This in turn, will improve retention and ensure that new trainee cohorts can successfully rotate across the business, regardless of practice area.

Claire Rankovic, Resourcing Manager at Higgs LLP commented on the recognition and said, “We’re really proud to be named a finalist. We specifically used Thrivemap to assess applicants for our Vacation Scheme because we know that full potential doesn’t always come across on a CV. That’s why we introduced and designed a scenario-based assessment that reflects what life is really like as a trainee.

“It was created with input from our current trainees and Heads of Department, making sure each task focuses on the skills that matter the most, such as resilience, problem-solving, and attention to detail. It’s already had an impact with over 96% of candidates rating the experience positively, and we’re experiencing an excellent mix of people and perspectives come through as a result.”

Hardeep Kharbanda-Camp, Resource and Inclusion Advisor added, “We wanted this process to be fair, realistic, and genuinely reflective of what it’s like to be a Trainee with us and allows us to make a more objective, evidence-based hiring decisions. It’s not about who sounds the part, it’s about who can demonstrate the skills and capabilities the role actually demands. This is something that we are very proud of and is reflective of our culture and values at Higgs LLP. ”

The In House Recruitment awards take place on Wednesday 26 November at the Park Plaza, Westminster, London.
