I joined Higgs LLP as an Associate in 2016, having previously been a public children law practitioner since 2010, and have therefore specialised in children law throughout my career.
I have significant experience in all areas of children law, including child arrangements disputes, international and domestic relocation, private law matters involving public law elements, and cases involving intractable hostility between parents.
I have also started to offer a service to fathers specifically in relation to their rights regarding their children. This has proven extremely popular and has enabled me to offer bespoke advice to many fathers who I often find can feel confused and unsure as to what their legal rights and responsibilities for their children are.
As well as being a member of Resolution, I am also recognised as a Rising Star by The Legal 500.
- Acted for a father who had never met his child and for whom mother had refused to allow him parental responsibility, and against whom she had made various allegations of abuse. Father was granted parental responsibility and a shared care order for his child.
- Acted for a mother who was struggling to agree arrangements with father for their child. Matters were agreed and concluded in the early stages of proceedings, together with an order for mother’s surname to be added to child’s surname.
- Acted for a father where the mother was alienating the children from him. Following a factual enquiry carried out by the court, all of the father’s allegations of alienating behaviour against the mother were found proven.
- Acted for a father where the mother withdrew all contact with the child and refused to agree to a previously planned holiday for the child with father and his wider family. Obtained an order for equal shared care of the child and permission for father to take the child on the family holiday.
- Acted for a father where mother was refusing to agree to the children spending more time with father than a previous order stated. Obtained an order which almost tripled the amount of time the children spent with their father and removed any restriction on father’s ability to take the children abroad for holidays.
- Acted for a father where the mother had removed the children from the country in which the family were living and later refused to facilitate time between father and the children. Obtained an order for equal shared care of the children.
- Acted for a father where the mother made a serious false allegation against him following her being served with his application. Obtained an order for the child to live with father.
- Acted for a father where there were issues of alcohol misuse and mother refused to allow any contact between father and child. Professional opinion supported mother. Obtained an order for the appointment of a new professional and an order for equal shared care of the child.
