Leading regional law firm Higgs LLP has again demonstrated its commitment to social progress and inclusion, by announcing its support for a scheme aimed at empowering young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. 

The Diversity and Inclusion Scheme was first launched in 2020 by Birmingham Law Society in response to the pressing need to address social and economic disparities faced by some young people who want to pursue a career in law. 

Higgs LLP and Gateley Legal have joined forces with Birmingham Law Society, the University of Law and the College of Legal Practice to help ensure that every young person, regardless of their background, has an equal chance to succeed.

By engaging in this scheme, both firms will actively participate in mentoring young people and providing vacation scheme placements to aspiring solicitors who wish to secure a career in the legal sector. 

“We firmly believe that talent knows no boundaries and that every young person deserves a fair chance to fulfil their potential,” said Sophie Wardell, HR Director at Higgs LLP. “Through our partnership with BLS, we aim to break down barriers and empower people to pursue their dreams in the legal profession.”

Alice Kinder, Birmingham Law Society Vice President and Chair of the Birmingham Law Society Social Mobility sub-committee said: “I am very proud that Birmingham Law Society is running this scheme for a fourth consecutive year.
