Higgs LLP : Latoyah Thompson

I graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in 2012 with a second class first division Criminology and Criminal Justice with Law degree.

I previously worked at the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) which is an executive agency to the Ministry of Justice.

I held the position as an administrative officer within the supervision and investigation services department. I was a Litigation Support Officer, Litigation Support Manager and Operational Delivery Manager within the legal department.

Within these roles I have supported executive case managers and closely supported in-house government lawyers. I have represented the Public Guardian within the Court of Protection in applications relating to lasting powers of attorney, enduring powers of attorney and court appointed deputies. I have also assisted the head of legal to solidify legal internal processes.

I possess a wealth of experience in dealing with matters relating to the Court of Protection, including contentious and non-contentious litigation.

I have a passion for this area of law because I am able to make a positive difference to people’s lives and their family’s lives which can be extremely rewarding.

I am currently studying for the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE) via the Graduate Solicitors Apprenticeship. I am undertaking my Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) alongside studying in the Court of Protection team.
