Dermatitis - an inflammation of the skin - has two main types:
Allergic contact dermatitis – where a person becomes allergic to a substance either immediately or after many years of exposure
Irritant contact dermatitis - caused by a single contact with a substance
The most common substances known to cause dermatitis are flour, bleach, latex, rubber, ink, glue and paint.
Your employer has a legal duty to protect you from dangerous substances at work. The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) sets out a number of steps which your employer must take such as minimising the risk of injury, providing training and adequate safety equipment, providing suitable protective equipment, providing appropriate extraction facilities and regular health surveillance.
They must also carry employer’s liability insurance, so most dermatitis at work claims are in fact handled by the insurer, not the employer.
If you have developed occupational dermatitis and we think your claim has prospects of succeeding, we can help fund your work accident claim with a No Win, No Fee agreement which means there is no financial risk to you if you lose.
