Higgs support SIA annual fundraiser

Members of the Higgs LLP Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence teams demonstrated their support for the Spinal Injury Association (SIA) by attending its glittering annual ball, helping to raise thousands of pounds for the charity.

Hundreds of people attended the black tie Cornflower Ball last night at Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester, hosted by TV star and former Paralympian Steve Brown.

Higgs LLP was delighted to support the event as the SIA’s Trusted Legal Partner in the West Midlands region.

Natasha Alton, Associate in the clinical negligence team, said: “We were pleased to once again attend this fantastic event, which raises crucial funds for the SIA and supports the important work the charity does.

“Our partnership with the SIA is an important one as it proves we have demonstrable experience in handling catastrophic injury claims and have met the charity’s strict criteria.

“We’re committed to supporting individuals who have been affected by spinal cord injuries and their families and friends. The partnership benefits our clients as it means they have access to SIA’s dedicated support network, while the association will also signpost enquiries to our specialist legal team.”

Higgs is committed to enhancing the holistic support that is available to clients who have sustained or acquired life-changing spinal injuries, as well as providing support to their loved ones.

The firm’s experienced lawyers are able to offer expert legal advice if there is a claim as a result of injuries sustained or substandard medical intervention – but Natasha explained that is just one aspect of the support available.

“Achieving fair damages when a spinal injury has occurred is clearly very important for many people as it compensates them for loss of work and allows them to fund rehabilitation and necessary adjustments to their lives,” said Natasha.

“But there are many other legal issues that can arise following a spinal injury, including purchasing single level accommodation or dealing with matrimonial issues or employment concerns. As a full service law firm, we have experts who can advise across the board on a multitude of topics.

“It means people with spinal cord injuries have all the support they need in one place rather than having to speak to several legal service providers, which can add to the stress. Our relationship with spinal injury clients very often endures far beyond a successful compensation claim.”

Higgs has a strong record of achieving high levels of compensation for people with spinal cord injuries. Earlier this year a client secured more than £30,000 after a surgeon recommended the wrong course of action, leading to the woman needing further surgery.

Every year, about 2,500 people are injured or diagnosed – one every four hours – through accident or injury, or through other health conditions such as a tumour or spinal compression.
