Multiple award nominations for Higgs

Higgs LLP’s expertise across multiple areas of law has been highlighted with a series of nominations for prestigious awards.

The leading regional law firm is celebrating a number of its people being in the running for industry accolades – as well as receiving firm-wide recognition.

Amongst those in contention for honours is Court of Protection expert Michelle Weaver, who is nominated for Lawyer of the Year at the Modern Law Awards.

The Modern Law Awards were launched to identify the best legal talent in the UK.

Michelle, who joined Higgs LLP in 2019, has been nominated for her achievements in growing the Court of Protection team from two to nine specialists.

She also recently received the SFE Older Client Care in Practice award for providing specialist legal care to older and vulnerable clients, has enhanced her team’s turnover growth and plays an active role in the firm’s charitable activities.

Michelle said: “It is a huge honour to be nominated for Lawyer of the Year alongside some exceptional people.

“I am proud of my achievements so far in enhancing Higgs’ Court of Protection work and increasing the services we are able to offer, including being able to represent clients in the High Court.

“I am passionate about my job and ensuring clients receive an exemplary service. It’s fantastic to be part of a team that shares that enthusiasm.”

Michelle will discover whether she has been successful on March 2.

Meanwhile, Higgs has been shortlisted for Law Firm of the Year at the Birmingham Law Society 2023 Legal Awards.

Decided by an experienced panel of independent judges, the winners will be announced at the International Convention Centre on March 9.

Higgs also has two lawyers shortlisted in the Women & Diversity in Law Awards: Rhian Gray and Ellie Norton.

Rhian has been recognised following her return to work after a period of maternity leave and Ellie has been identified as a rising star.

Both play a pivotal role in the Higgs’ Family team, including advising clients following the breakdown of relationships, divorce, finances and child arrangements. They are both role models for the firm and the wider legal sector.

The firm is nominated for Mental Health and Wellbeing Initiative of the Year at the same awards for its work in launching a successful Wellness Team.

Comprising 16 people from across the business, the Wellness Team meets every six weeks and organises regular ‘time to talk’ coffee and cake sessions, as well as arranging external speakers on subjects such as loneliness, resilience, and financial wellbeing.

The Women &Diversity in Law Awards winners will be announced on March 21.

Elsewhere, Solicitor Apprentice Daniel Woodcock is shortlisted for Newcomer of the Year at the PA Awards West Midlands and Head of Legal Services Michelle Jamieson is in the running for the Business Support Manager of the Year prize.

Angela Croad is in contention for PA of the Year in the same awards, while Louise McCone is hoping to secure the Lifetime Achievement Award

Nick Taylor, Managing Partner at Higgs, praised the finalists for their hard work.

“It’s fantastic to see so many of our people, across many departments, nominated for various awards,” he said.

“It is a reflection of the innovative and industry-leading work our people are carrying out in their specialist areas. We are fully committed to providing excellent service and advice to our clients and this is evidence of that.”
