Children's Mental Health Week 2023

With this week having been Children’s Mental Health Week it got us thinking, as we often do, about the impact of parental animosity upon the little people who are at the heart of disputes between separating parents, but whose faces are almost never seen.

What we do know as practitioners is that the impact of parental dispute and acrimony upon children is almost always harmful, and sadly in some cases, irreversibly damaging to the child or children involved.

While there will always be those instances in which the hostility is so great there is precious little the court or family law practitioners can do to alleviate the impact upon the children, happily there are far more instances in which parents can come together to settle their differences and put the needs and the happiness of the children first.

What we do know is that it is every parent’s common goal that they want their children to be happy despite the breakdown of their family, and that there are a wealth of tools and resources available to help parents see the impact of their dispute through the eyes of their children and take a new approach, even if that means putting aside their own wants and desires.

Here at Higgs we offer a comprehensive expert service in virtually all things children, and can signpost you to the right place for help and support in both a legal and non-legal context.

Ensuring your children’s mental health is prioritised and safeguarded is something we can offer support and guidance upon. If you are interested in receiving further information, please contact Sioned Fitt on 01384 327162 or sioned.fitt@higgsllp.co.uk
