National Apprenticeship Week - Latoyah Thompson

Latoyah Thompson is trailblazing as Higgs LLP’s first Solicitor Apprentice.

Ambitious Latoyah started her apprenticeship last year and is currently working as Court of Protection Manager within the Higgs’ private client department.

The Solicitor Graduate Apprenticeship is a relatively new qualification for people with a degree that offers an alternative route to qualification.

“The apprenticeship route has been fantastic for me,” said Latoyah. “It has allowed me to apply what I have learnt in theory straight away in live cases.

“This helps me develop my understanding in order to progress my cases accurately.

“My thoughts on apprenticeships have not changed since I started one myself: they are a productive and effective way to grow talent and help develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce.”

Latoyah, who previously worked at the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) – an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice – is preparing to sit the first Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE).

Latoyah added: “I am extremely passionate about the work I am currently doing in Court of Protection. Being able to make a positive difference to people’s lives is very rewarding.”

Latoyah is due to qualify as a solicitor at the start of 2025.
