Trainees move up ranks at legal firm

Higgs LLP, one of the West Midlands’ most established law firms, has continued its impressive growth by retaining five of its trainee solicitors.

The quintet have been offered positions in a range of practice areas across the firm despite the inevitable disruption to their training contracts caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Laura Hackett and Victoria Boucher will qualify into Private Client, while Lucy Williams will remain with the Employment team.

Elizabeth Owen continues her career in Succession Planning while the Commercial team welcomes Charlotte Tsang, who will also qualify in January.

Sophie Wardell, HR Director at Higgs LLP, is delighted to see the trainees move to the next stage of their development after each completing a period of recognised training.

She said: “To have five trainees on the verge of qualifying with the firm is a fantastic result.

“Growing our own talent is an integral part of Higgs LLP and helps us provide the very best legal services and client care.

“We are extremely proud of the trainees and their professionalism and commitment during what has been a very challenging time.

“As a firm, we are thrilled to see all our trainees flourish. Our aim is to continue providing the best possible environment for people to thrive and prosper and this is clear evidence of that strategy.

“It shows that a training contract at Higgs LLP is a very enticing prospect for future lawyers and that the firm is growing and continuing to go from strength to strength, despite the obvious difficulties the pandemic has presented.”

Charlotte believes her two-year training contract has provided her with an excellent platform for the rest of her legal career.

The former University of Oxford graduate, who studied for her GDL and LPC MSc at the University of Law, said: “I am delighted to be qualifying into the fantastic Commercial team at Higgs LLP.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed all my seats in Commercial Property, Dispute Resolution and, of course, Commercial. Throughout my training contract, I have benefited from extensive opportunities for direct client contact and being able to call on fantastic supervisors.

“Though it has, without doubt, been a very challenging time to train as a solicitor, I am excited to begin my post-qualification journey at Higgs LLP and look forward to what the future will bring.”

A further four new trainees - Taylor LoveJonny JonesRichard Freeman and Jodie Johnson – started at Higgs LLP in March 2021 and seven more are due to commence in September.
