Higgs staff rack up the miles for charity

Colleagues at leading law firm Higgs & Sons are putting their best foot forward to raise money for charity.

Eighty employees have committed to individually walk at least 15,000 steps in a day at least once a week throughout April to raise money for the firm’s charity of the year, Teenage Cancer Trust.

The number of steps – the equivalent of seven miles a day - is significant as it is the average amount a nurse completes while on shift.

Clare Griffiths, Engagement Manager at Higgs & Sons, said: “Our plucky fundraisers are now more than halfway through our Walk With Us challenge and I know those taking part have enjoyed getting active while raising money.

“It is the equivalent of walking from our Brierley Hill office to West Bromwich town centre, so it’s no mean feat. Over the course of the challenge they will cover around 30 miles, further than a marathon.

“It’s great that our staff remain so committed to raising money for charity, and the Teenage Cancer Trust is a fantastic cause.”

Despite the pandemic curtailing many of Higgs’ fundraising activities, the firm still managed to raise more than £5,500 for Teenage Cancer Trust in 2020.

The firm decided to support the charity again throughout 2021 and the Walk With Us challenge has so far raised more than £200.

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to providing young people who have received a diagnosis of cancer with specialised nursing care and support.
