Higgs & Sons Partner in Running for Region’s Top Award

The head of Higgs & Sons’ Charity and Not for Profit team is waiting to find out whether she has scooped one of the region’s top legal awards.

Kirsty McEwen is shortlisted in the Birmingham Law Society 2020/21 Legal Awards in the Partner of the Year category.

The showpiece final, originally scheduled for last year, will take place virtually this evening.

Kirsty, of Harborne, Birmingham, said: “It is an honour both personally and professionally to have been shortlisted and I am touched that my colleagues have nominated me.  It is recognition of the work of the wider Charity and Not for Profit Team and of the firm who have supported me since I joined.

“Whilst I will miss the opportunity to get dressed up and enjoy an evening with friends, colleagues and other professionals across the region, I will enjoy the evening with my family and my children are particularly excited.

“I have the utmost respect for the other finalists in the category, all of whom are leaders and pioneers in their fields.   It is a privilege to be in the company of such icons of the region’s legal community.”

University of Birmingham graduate Kirsty, 46, has been with Higgs & Sons for nine years. She advises charities, not for profit and voluntary organisations on all aspects of their operations and has acted for many well-known and established charities as well as acting on behalf of the Charity Commission in its regulatory and investigative work.

Kirsty is a Trustee of The Solicitors Charity, which has been providing support to solicitors (and their families and dependents) in times of need or crisis since 1858; and a Governor of Hallfield School, a leading independent preparatory school in Edgbaston.

Kirsty said: “I absolutely love what I do. I am privileged to have met some wonderful, fascinating, committed individuals and professionals who are motivated and driven to give back and support others.  For the Charity and Not for Profit team, it is deeply rewarding to be able to provide genuine specialist, expert support to individuals and organisations on charity law, constitutional advice, governance and regulation, as well as across the full range of other legal services which Higgs & Sons offers.”

The awards will be streamed online at https://birminghamlawsociety.co.uk/legal-awards/
