Helping employers getting back to work

Dozens of businesses from a host of industry sectors were given a valuable insight into the potentially contentious legal issues facing employers and employees over the coming months during a special Higgs & Sons webinar.

Head of Employment Tim Jones was joined by fellow team members Emma Williams, Debra Cottam, Damian Kelly and Katherine Cooke addressing the major issues facing business during the ‘Getting Back To Work’ presentation.

Amongst the topics discussed were the vaccination of employees, flexible working, lateral flow testing and health and safety policies while a questions and answers session also addressed individual queries.

A series of polls were taken throughout the webinar, providing the following results:

  • 92 per cent of businesses believe not all of their employees will opt to receive the vaccine
  • More than 90 per cent of employers believe the pandemic has had an adverse effect on the mental health of their workforce
  • Asked about an increased demand for flexible working, 94 per cent of business believe their employees will want to work from home more after restrictions have been lifted
  • Some 86 per cent of employers have said they would look more favourably upon flexible working requests now compared to pre-pandemic

Tim Jones, Head of Employment at Higgs & Sons, said: “It was an excellent turnout for the webinar and we covered a lot of topics which will be hugely relevant to business moving forward.

“There are a lot of contentious and controversial issues facing employers and employees over the coming months and – at all times – it’s important to bear the legal implications in mind.

“Our main message was for businesses to communicate and engage with employees every step of the way.  A failure to communicate effectively could set up a war of attrition between employers and employees and that is in nobody’s interests.”

The Higgs & Sons Employment team will be hosting another webinar on restructuring the workforce on Tuesday, April 20 at 9.30am.

Topics to be discussed include redundancy and alternatives, agreeing pay reductions, requiring holiday to be taken and much more. To sign up for this webinar, please click here.
