Spotlight on Higgs & Sons apprentices to celebrate landmark week

This week is National Apprenticeship Week, which shines a light on the amazing work being done by employers and apprentices across the country.

We’re taking the opportunity to recognise our own apprentices who are currently taking part in the Early Careers Programme across the firm.

Emily Neale

Emily is a Finance Apprentice within the Higgs finance team. She’s currently working towards an AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting at Dudley College, while learning the trade hands-on with Higgs & Sons.

Emily said she is enjoying taking on increased responsibilities within the team as her training progresses.

“The good thing is I’m able to put my knowledge to the test in the workplace whenever I learn new modules,” she said.  “I am able to do this alongside the support of my colleagues who are always on hand to answer any questions I may have and who mentor me further.

“As I’ve progressed through the course, I have taken on more responsibility in the team. I’m currently providing team-wide support particularly in the areas of credit control, cashiering and purchase ledger.

“I’m very grateful to have been given this opportunity by Higgs and, as much as I am thoroughly enjoying the course, I’m looking forward to seeing how my career develops once I am Level 3 qualified.”

Owen Bayliss

An apprentice at Higgs & Sons for two years, Owen has recently been promoted to a permanent role within the firm.

He completed the ‘Pearson Diploma in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals’ course in his first year at Dudley College of Technology, collecting the CompTIA A+ certification.

The second year of studies focussed on the Microsoft Technology Associate certifications.

Owen said: “Higgs were incredibly supportive of my apprenticeship, paying immense amounts of care and attention to my learning and progress.

“I was given the same opportunities for work as my colleagues and was included in more complex projects as much as possible. Higgs makes learning on the job easy and natural. I joined Higgs straight out of secondary education so it has been a fantastic way to evolve my ability as well learning to fit into the workplace.

Chantel Horton

Chantel has been with Higgs for three-and-a-half years and is currently completing the Paralegal Apprenticeship whilst working in the Private Client team.

“I am still fairly new to the apprenticeship but I have settled in really well,” Chantel said.

“I’m finding my online training interesting. My team at Higgs have been nothing short of brilliant when going through all of my work, I couldn’t have asked for a better team to learn from.

“I’m really looking forward to the rest of my course and continuing to grow with Higgs.”

Sophie Perry

Sophie Perry is just a few weeks into her Paralegal Apprenticeship Level 3 via Damar Training.

She is looking forward to expanding her knowledge and skills to help her carry out her day-to-day activities and to manage her caseload even more efficiently.

Sophie said: “I am grateful that Higgs & Sons has given me the opportunity to enhance my knowledge and skills further.

“It will help me to provide the best service and advice to my clients.”
