Diversity central to Higgs values

A leading voice on diversity will deliver a keynote speech to Higgs’ colleagues this week as part of a two-stage programme.

Dr Funke Abimbola MBE - a performance driven, C-suite leader, solicitor and pharmaceutical healthcare executive, BBC contributor and diversity and inclusion leader, speaker and solicitor - will host a virtual presentation on ‘Why Diversity Matters’ on Wednesday, 27 January.

Dr Abimbola is a Business Committee member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Governance and Inclusive Leadership and is tasked with raising the issue of inclusive leadership and governance in all areas of society.

The Prime Minister awarded her ‘Point of Light’ status in 2016 due to the positive impact of her equality, diversity and inclusion work. In 2017, she was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list for services to diversity and young people, recognising her contributions in leading on the diversity and inclusion for over a decade.

Sophie Wardell, HR Director at Higgs & Sons, said: “It’s a real honour to have Dr Abimbola deliver this programme to our Higgs’ team.

“She has an inspirational record of promoting inclusion, diversity and equity which aligns with the firm’s commitment to our people values, namely making Higgs a vibrant and diverse community and an inclusive environment. Given the pandemic, providing a sense of belonging has never been more important.”

Dr Abimbola will share her personal leadership journey, highlighting key aspects of diversity and why diversity matters, covering themes including race, ethnicity, gender and social mobility.

Next month, Dr Abimbola will host part two of the allyship programme to Higgs’ colleagues in a firmwide ‘Let’s Talk About Race’ workshop.
