A Christmas Haven

12th December 2012

As part of the firm's 'Community Matters' initiative, a group of Higgs' volunteers attended The Haven, a women's refuge in Wolverhampton, in order to spread a little festive cheer. Kelly Perks, Kim Chapman, James Osborne, Gillian Seers, Irene Williams, Mike George and Lynne Evitts all took time out of their day to deliver the vast amounts of Christmas decorations and food that have been donated over the past few weeks and decorate their resource centre. At a time of year when the majority of us have little to worry about aside from de-icing the car and cooking enough turkey, it was a joy to help those in need at difficult times.

The Haven's Corporate Relations Officer, Palvinder Dulai, commented: "Everyone is now certainly getting into the Christmas spirit and we really appreciate the time Higgs' put in and the donations of Christmas decorations. The room and resource centre looks great so please pass on my thanks to everyone who helped out."

This project is just a drop in the ocean, with countless ventures scheduled to take place over the next 12 months. These include mentoring undergraduates, providing care and support for the elderly and mentoring children and young people. Previous projects have involved decorating a room for Cerebral Palsy West Midlands, landscaping a garden for High Flyers and helping young children to improve their reading skills at Hawbush Primary School. Here at Higgs & Sons, community really does matter.
