More miles, more staff, lose points says leading motoring lawyer

22nd June 2010

The recession and squeezed workforces are leading to more cases for one of the region's leading motoring lawyers.

Less employees, coupled with more miles to cover is resulting in an increasing number of points on licences according to Catherine Junor, one of the region's most recognised specialist motoring lawyers.

Catherine, a partner at Higgs & Sons, says: "2010 has seen a marked increase in cases of employees and company directors facing the loss of their driving licences thanks to mounting points, as they have to cover more miles across the UK in a shorter space of time.

"The recession has seen many businesses cut staff, which in turn has put more pressure on existing employees. My clients range from chief executives to senior sales people who all need to drive to keep the business going.

"The effect of losing your driving licence, not only to the individual but to the business, could be catastrophic. There is a six month minimum ban when you have accumulated 12 points on your licence, unless you successfully argue mitigating circumstances before the court. I would point out to anyone that although establishing this may be extremely difficult, with a specialist motoring lawyer this is not impossible."
